By Simon Hradecky, created Wednesday, Apr 12th 2023 08:22Z, last updated Wednesday, Apr 12th 2023 08:55Z

An Air Kasai Antonov AN-26, registration 9S-AFP performing a cargo flight from Kinshasa to Lisala (DR Congo) carrying medical supplies to fight Malaria, landed on Lisala's runway 05 in strong winds and rain at about 13:00L (12:00Z) when the aircraft could not stop before the end of the runway (gravel, 2200 meters/7200 feet) and overran the end coming to a stop about 200 meters/660 feet past the end on a private property at about position N2.1784 E21.5052. There were no injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage to its nose and the nose gear.

Locals reported at the time of the landing there was a storm and heavy rain. The runway had been paved with asphalt 33 years ago but had never been repaired since. The aircraft came to a stop about 200 meters past the end of the runway close to a private house.

This is the second runway excursion of the aircraft within 15 months, see also Incident: Kasai AN26 at Lodja on Jan 17th 2022, runway excursion on landing.

Just a scratch
By Ralf on Thursday, Apr 13th 2023 06:31Z

The pilot lives at the end of that runway and likes to park in his backyard.

Anyway, just a little scratch. It will buff out.
If it can still fly, it will!

By James on Wednesday, Apr 12th 2023 20:26Z

I shouldn't think it will have a third runway excursion at this or any other airport.

total economic loss?

Finally ready for scrapping I think.

The 2nd picture shows that it was in fact an Easter egg delivery flight.

With full reverse the landing distance of an An=24/26 is about 600m
