Incident: Qantas A388 at London on Jul 4th 2009, failed nose gear steering

By Simon Hradecky, created Tuesday, Jul 7th 2009 09:01Z, last updated Tuesday, Jul 7th 2009 09:01Z

A Qantas Airbus A380-800, registration VH-OQA performing flight QF-31 from Singapore (Singapore) to London Heathrow,EN (UK), aborted the approach and went around due to a problem with the nose gear. The airplane went into a holding, the crew declared PAN reporting failed nose gear steering and performed a safe landing onto Heathrow's runway 27L. The airplane had to be towed to the apron.

Runway 27L was closed for about 30 minutes.

The airplane was repaired, departed for the return flight QF-32 with a delay of 2 hours and reached Singapore 1:45 hours past schedule.

Airbus-Boeing

Guys,

Being an A380 pilot myself, a lot of stuff like this happens all the time, especially on new aircraft. Doesn't matter whether is an A or a B. A lot of it isn't even reported. I often refer to this site since the idea behind it is nice and informative. Would love to see the posts being that too...

NOW CHILDREN !!!

I refer to my comments on a previous incident. I enjoy and have learnt from this site. Thank you Simon, for giving me this chance. Will the people who write and openly critize/compare the two main aircraft companies, go to another site and leave people to pass information or their ideas. For your info., I am live in the south west of France.

Felipe

He does it to wind us all up, he's an expert at it and never fails to get a reaction, just ignore him and he'll go away.
I'll refrain from calling him a dickhead again.
:-)

Felipe, you truly amaze me..... on how ignorant a human can really be.

'Airbus is a new company'. So? Some may even argue that because Airbus is a new company it's technology is more recent and therefore even safer?

Take a look at the airline's involved for a moment with these more recent Airbus accidents. Air France and Yemenia. Air France are good at tarnishing aircraft's safety records(as with the A340, A330, and don't make me mention the Concorde). And Yemenia had received information on several occasions that the A310 involved was very dangerous and needed proper maintenance.

Sigh.

Thank you to Simon for having such a fantastic website, with very easy to read news; it's a pity it is spoiled by people like Felipe.....

A380s
By Jason on Wednesday, Jul 8th 2009 02:58Z

Have to say that there have been a few Qantas A380 incidents of late. But when you consider how few airlines have them, how new they still are development wise, and the relatively minor incidents they are involved in, it isn't a cause for concern.

Airbus
By Kev on Tuesday, Jul 7th 2009 14:44Z

The age of Airbus as we know them today is completely and utterly irrelivant to these incidents as is boeings age to their recent incidents. Stop being ignorant and wake up Felipe.

Simon, could you please be more proactive with removing people that comment purely to start the whole Airbus Vs Boeing rubbish? Or at least allow us to vote down certain comments or something.
One thing I like about this site is that you put all the information together in an easily readable format. Occasionally people let it down with mis informed commentary based purely on their own ignorant views.

Boeing vs Airbus
By Levent, Izmir on Tuesday, Jul 7th 2009 14:21Z

This is a pointless argument. If you are to travel long distance, you either fly on fine planes built by one of the two major aircraft makers, or alternatively you can start planning a journey based on rail, road and sea transport:::))) I would be interested to see how far that gets anyone these days!!

Airbus
By Felipe on Tuesday, Jul 7th 2009 13:40Z

You are all wrong. Airbus is a "new" company, Boeing is an old producer with many more planes operating so therefore Airbus is overrepresented in incidents and accidents.

Kev & Felipe
By William on Tuesday, Jul 7th 2009 12:42Z

I totally agree with Kev. Felipe is being completely ignorant. Both aircraft manufacturer's produce great aircraft that are both equally safe to fly.

Anyway, to the actual article, it's interesting, there was another A380 incident with QF almost a week ago, and I've been on both routes and aircraft involved - VH-OQA and VH-OQC!! Fantastic aircraft though, and I thoroughly enjoyed my flight. The A380 is fantastic - SO AMAZINGLY QUIET!!! :-)

Manufacturers
By pjbonner on Tuesday, Jul 7th 2009 12:23Z

As the World's aircraft fleet largely consists of Airbus & Boeing.it's natural that these manufacturers have the most incidents etc.,though still a very small percentage of total flights.

Airbus
By Kev on Tuesday, Jul 7th 2009 12:10Z

Felipe are you conveniently ignoring all the Boeing incidents this month which far outweigh airbus so far?
Take your preferential rubbish else ware. Both airlines are very safe to fly and still the safest method to travel.

Airbus

Again an Airbus. There are to many incidents/accidents now with Airbus.
